Cheap Family Vacations!

I’ve done it many times before. Without the proper planning, family vacations can destroy a tight budget and ruin the enjoyable times that the vacation was supposed to create. Now that our kids are getting older, I have learned many lessons that I wish I would have known when they were young and we were making those treasurable family memories. So I thought I would put these lessons into words with the hopes that others can avoid some of the pitfalls that plagued our young family in the early years.

The Lessons I Learned:

1. “Cheap Family Vacations” does not mean “Boring Family Vacations”! This misconception lead me to believing that I had to spend more money then I could afford in order to experience a rewarding vacation that the family would all enjoy and remember for years to come.

2. “Family vacations cannot happen close to home!” Well, this one is totally false as some of our best memories come from vacations spent within a days drive from home.

3. “The More You Spend the Funner The Vacation!” Totally Wrong — We have all heard this before but I am going to say it again, Some of the best vacation experiences our family ever experienced happened within driving distance from home.
